Do It Yourself Collage On Canvas
For you hands on creative types out there, we are going to give you an idea on how to create great canvas art from your photographs. We have tried this in our studio and can really achieve amazing looks if you get daring! Here is a step by step breakdown of how to transfer your photographs to canvas:
1. Buy a pre-stretched canvas from any Art & Craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby etc...)! If this is your first try, we suggest using a small canvas like 5' x 7" or 8' x 10".
2. Order a product called Lazertran. Some craft stores carry it, but you can also find it online at dickblick.com.
3. Get a product called acrylic Medium, which should be available at your nearest craft store or in any online craft store.
4. Apply 1 or 2 layers of the acrylic medium to the canvas and let dry.
5. Print your image on a piece of the Lazertan Inkjet paper as per the enclosed instructions. Allow the print to dry for 30 minutes.
6. Add another layer of medium to the canvas.
7. Cut the Lazertran to image size and soak in water until the decal releases from the backing sheet. This should take about 60 seconds. Peel the backing off the image and begin to apply to the canvas. Use a roller to flatten the image.
8. Repeat this with several images for a creative collage effect.
9. Once all the images are dry, you can then incorporate other elements such as crystals, ribbons, art papers, paints or any other creative elements that will make your collage your own.
That is it! You may have to practice a few times first, so try a couple of practice shots on the smallest size canvas you can get!
